When I first brought this wine home, my husband said, “there’s a wine named after a cat”? But when we tasted it we found a distinct floral nose of sweet roses with black pepper, and intense fruit. When you think of wine from Piedmont, you probably think “Barolo” but Ruchè in its most prized form comes from the Monferrato zone of Piedmont. The Nebbiolo grape has a similar flavor profile but the similarity is probably terroir based rather a result of the fruit itself. Also, the name, Ruchè, probably comes from a variation of the word “rock” so its not a stretch to consider the wine in terms of its terroir. Allora! Ne assaggeremmo! Well! Let’s crack some bottles open and try some!
